Terrorism
West Midlands Police together with the security services monitor the risk of terrorist activities and take action to control those risks.
The Government has produced a national Counter Terrorism Strategy (known as CONTEST). There are four major intervention strands to this national strategy. These are:
Prepare – Being ready to deal with the consequences;
Protect – Reducing our vulnerability;
Prevent – Tackling radicalism
Pursue – Disrupt terrorists and their operations.
Overall, Birmingham City Council supports this strategy and is undertaking a number of specific community and partnership projects that meet the strategy’s objectives.
The Government also employs a five grade alert system regarding any possible terror attacks that may feature on this website from time to time. This is as follows:
LOW – An attack is unlikely
MODERATE – An attack is possible but not likely
SUBSTANTIAL – Strong possibility of an attack
SEVERE – An attack is highly likely
CRITICAL – An attack is expected imminently
