Fire – Aston Church Road Birmingham

WMFS have informed of a fire around the Aston Church Road B6. Please avoid the area, take alternative routes.

Advice from Health Protection Agency:

“People in areas affected by the smoke should stay indoors, keep their doors and windows closed, and tune in to the local radio station for advice and information. Anyone visiting the Star City Complex should try to spend as little time as possible outdoors when the smoke plume is visible nearby or if there is a noticeable smell. Motorists who have to travel through the smoke should keep windows closed, turn off air conditioning and keep their air vents closed. So far, there have been no reports of any people experiencing ill effects from this fire. The Fire and Rescue Service is on-site dealing with the fire and the other agencies involved will continue to monitor the situation and issue advice to the public, businesses and organisations affected as necessary.”

An Environment Agency spokesperson said: “Environment Officers have been on the scene since 9.30am this morning. We are liaising with the fire service to try to minimise the impact of fire water run off to the River Rea. We will continue to monitor the situation and assist to reduce the impact on the environment.”
