Gas main incident – Printing House Street, City Centre

Update at 17:30

This is a final update to the incident in Printing House Street, Birmingham City Centre. Gas has been isolated to the building. The fire has been extinguished.

Weaman Street has been re-opened and the Royal Angus NCP car park is also now open.

Whittall Street and Printing House Street will remain closed for a short period whilst emergency service vehicles leave the scene.

There will be no further updates on this incident.

Emergency Services are still in attendance at a fire caused by a ruptured gas main in the basement of the old Post and Mail building on Printing House Street, Birmingham City Centre.

Roads surrounding the building are closed, including Printing House Street, Weaman Street and Whittall Street.

There is currently no access in or out of the Royal Angus NCP Car Park. 

Birmingham Children’s Hospital is not affected by the incident. However there is no access in to the car park.

West Midlands Fire Service are unable to confirm how long any closures in the area will remain in place. We will issue a further update if we have any new information.  An officer from Birmingham Resilience Team is at the scene of the incident to liaise with emergency services.

Emergency services remain at the scene of a gas main fire in the basement of the old Post and Mail building on Printing House Street, Birmingham City Centre.

Roads remain closed around the incident as a safety precaution (Printing House Street, Whittall Street, Weaman Street). 

There is currently no access to the NCP car park (Royal Angus).

There is currently a gas main incident at the old Post and Mail building on Printing House Street, Birmingham City Centre

Roads immediately surrounding the building have been closed as a safety precaution.

Printing House Street, Whittall Street and Weaman Street are affected at this time.

The Colmore Plaza building has been evacuated.

We will issue a further update when we have any further information on this incident.
