Large fire – Newtown

The Fire Service are still in attendance at this incident but the remaining road closures have been lifted.

The Fire Service are still in attendance at this incident.  West Midlands Police have confirmed that although the Road Closures are still in place at Bridge Street West and a section of Hospital Street  it is hoped that these limited road closures will be lifted shortly.

The Fire Service are still in attendance at this incident,  Bridge Street West and a section of Hospital Street remain closed for the time being.

Update @ 8:19am

It has been confirmed that the cordon will now be lifted from this incident and no major road closures will remain in place.  Bridge Street West and a section of Hospital Street will remain closed whilst the Fire Service are still in attendance.

Bridge Street West, New John Street West, Hospital Street and Frankfort Street have all been closed. 

St Chads Junior and Infant School and Brearly Street schools have been closed. 

The A34 – New Town Row is open.

A 200m cordon remains in place.  St Chads Junior and Infants school will be closed today.

We have been informed of a large fire on Bridge Street West, in the Newtown area of Birmingham.  There is currently a safety cordon of 200m in place and anyone within the area are advised to keep their windows and doors closed.  This also means a number of roads are currently closed, which include New John Street West, Summer Lane, and New Town Row (A34).  Please keep up to date with local traffic information via local radio.
