Protest re Democratic Republic of Congo in Victoria Square now over.  Majority of participants have dispersed.

Group of up to 100 or so preceding along upper end of New Street to Victoria Square.

The march is now at Snow Hill Circus, and will head towards Victoria Square.

March now moved into Summer Lane, still heading towards the City Centre.

An unauthorised march is taking place along the road into the City Centre

A group of approximately 50 protestors are currently on the A34 Walsall Road heading towards the City Centre and are expected to march into Victoria Square.  There is no confirmed route. 

Expect some disruption as the march proceeds along the roadways.

West Midlands Police have issued the following information concerning a protest in Birmingham City Centre today (Thursday, 16th February). 

Protesters will be seeking to publicise their ongoing concerns over the electoral process in the Democratic Republic of Congo.  Estimates suggest that anywhere in the region of 200 to 2,000 people may attend the event which will be held in Victoria Square from 11:00 am.  BRT and other officers within the Council have been working closely with the Police, other partners and the organisers to ensure that the event will run smoothly and safely. Police officers will be closely monitoring developments and we will update this posting as and when necessary.
