Scientists required
An interesting news article has been written on the BBC website stating how MP’s have said that Government must take more notice of scientists when deciding how to respond to emergencies.
The Commons Science and Technology Committee have released a report in which they claim that the volcanic ash cloud in 2010 is an example of poor risk assessment and scientists were warning of increase volcanic activity.
MP’s are concerned that the Government’s chief scientists and their team of advisers aren’t consulted about national risk assessments, which state the impact and likelihood of potential emergencies facing the UK, and call for greater involvement.

The word “scientist” can be interpreted either way – the classical methodist or revolutionary inventor. It’s the inventor you should probably be listening more to, but let’s just look at your website and your “Birmingham Community Alert” logo. The bloggy website is clearly trying to get down-on-a-level with the community, but it isn’t working because it’s full of pictures & videos of middle-aged white businessmen and authoritatively worded text, and there is no clear motive behind the site other than pursuing standard government agenda. Then the word Birmingham in the logo is styled in typical Marketing Birmingham fashion, and the word ALERT is in bog-standard big bold red text, the word community looks ugly, and the picture of the mobile phone that represents style amoung our youths is looking very dull and somewhat like a policeman’s walky-talky. And the Birmingham Community Alert is promoted in such a typical government-issued fashion that the main subscriber is likely to be someone who’s already working for government departments, it just doesn’t appeal to the real streetwise communities. If there was a deeper meaning to your activity, and you clearly had the people’s interest at heart, equally and fairly for everyone, then people on the streets may get behind it, even the ones who are very difficult to engage – some people still engage them with genuine-spirited initiatives that are clearly centred around serving them rather than furthering the government’s agenda of hostile “intelligence gathering” on its own people.
