Cold Weather Alert – Level 3 Alert

Level 3 – Cold Weather Action

The Met Office have issued a level 3 Cold Weather Alert which indicates that there is a 100% probability of severe cold weather up until 1000 on Friday that is likely to affect parts of England, including the West Midlands. Currently Wednesday and Thursday look like being the coldest periods. The cold weather health watch comprises four levels of response based on cold weather thresholds. The thresholds have been developed to trigger an alert when severe cold weather is likely to significantly affect people’s health. The alerts take account of temperature along with other winter weather threats such as ice and snow.

Update Sunday 29th Jan 2012

The Met Office  have updated the Cold Weather Alert – Level 2 – which now  indicates that there is a 70% probability of severe cold weather between 1000  Sunday 29th Jan and 1000 Thursday 2nd Feb across the West Midlands.  Please see the Met Office website for further details by using the link below.

Protest in City Centre

West Midlands Police have confirmed that today’s earlier protest in the City Centre has now concluded peacefully.

There is some disruption in the City Centre due to people protesting regarding Congolese issues. The Police are managing the situation. This is not expected to continue for a long period of time.

Accident Birchfield Flyover A34 – Southbound Carriageway

 

Update 15:20hrs Carriageway now re- opened, traffic flowing freely.

A Road Traffic Collision has blocked the Southbound Carriageway of the A34 Walsall Road near to the junction with Trinity Road and this is causing delays for traffic heading towards the City.

Emergency Services and recovery vehicles are on site and dealing with the incident.

Brickfield Road Hay Mills – Road Closed

 

Update 06 January 2012 10.45am

The road closures were lifted at 9.30 am. This incident is now closed

The gusty winds today have blown solar panels off the roof of the Walkers Chocolate Factory in Hay Mills. Part of Brickfield Road will be closed  to ensure public safety but this should cause limited disruption in the local area.
