Bupa Great Birmingham Run

Formerly the Birmingham Half Marathon, the event is now back as the Bupa Great Birmingham Run and will take place in Birmingham city centre on Sunday 23 October.  The leading half marathon in the Midlands, this event is for runners of all abilities. The race will feature world class international athletes and will be televised live on Channel 5. To enter and to see details of the full route of the event visit www.greatrun.org/events

Frankley Carnival Returns for 2011!

For many years The Frankley Carnival was held in Frankley, and in 2011, after an absence of a few years, it is returning!

The Frankley Carnival 2011 will be taking place between 11.30am and 4pm on Sunday 28th August 2011 on the grounds of Frankley Community High School, Birmingham, B45 0EU.

This will be a fun and exciting day for everyone There will be plenty of fun activities to keep adults and kids alike entertained and there will be various stalls with representatives from a wide range of community organisations.

Birmingham Resilience Team will be on hand to promote community preparedness, including preparing for flooding, which some in the community of Frankley have experienced over the last few years. We will also be encouraging people to register for the free ‘Birmingham Community Alert’ service, which is a really useful way of finding out the latest information regarding emergencies in your local area.

ArtsFest, the UK’s biggest free arts festival returns to Birmingham city centre’s street, squares and indoor arts venues. Over 3,000 artists are set to be involved in the weekend extravaganza of live music, theatre, street art, dance and comedy.

From ballet to bhangra, dub poetry to indie rock, comedy to classical music and everything in between, there is sure to be something for everyone to enjoy.

Events takes place in various venues across Birmingham city centre from Saturday morning to Sunday evening.

Birmingham Eid Mela – Cannon Hill Park

Birmingham Eid Mela 2011 is taking place in Cannon Hill Park on Sunday 4th September to celebrate the diversity of the Muslim Community in Birmingham through its culture, food, sport, art and entertainment. Now in its eleventh year, the festival is bigger and better than ever with something for everyone.

There will be children’s rides, a sports area hosting a Kabbadi match and weightlifting, a bazaar with clothing, jewellery, music and craft stalls and a whole host of catering units selling traditional Asian food.

Free public parking is available at nearby Calthorpe Park and Holder Lane Playing Field.

The Birmingham Eid Mela is organised in partnership by Birmingham City Council, Muslim Organisations and the Muslim Community in Birmingham
