Year of the Sheep

Birmingham welcomes in the Chinese New Year with an afternoon of free entertainment at the Arcadian Centre. Dragon dances, acrobatic performances and Kung Fu demonstrations are just some of the cultural entertainment on offer. Plus traditional firecrackers, market stalls, food and children’s rides.

The celebrations are organised by the Birmingham Chinese Festival Committee with support from Birmingham City Council and other sponsors. For more information, visit www.cnybirmingham.org.uk

A closure of Hurst Street will be implemented between Inge Street and Bromsgrove Street from 7.00am – 7.00pm to incorporate a number of stalls and children’s rides.

The programme begins with the traditional Dragon Dance and popular fireworks which will get proceedings off with a bang.

11.00: Hurst St and Inge St stalls open  

12.30: Lion Dances and Welcome by Birmingham’s Lord Mayor at the Main Stage in the Arcadian Centre

12.45: Chinese cultural performances including dance, music and martial arts

12.00: Kids Zone opens on Inge St including fairground rides and special Craft Zone for Kids in the courtyard of the National Trust Back 2 Backs.

17.30: Lion Dances and Fireworks to close the celebrations

18.00: Event closes

Birmingham Resilience Team will also be attending providing advice and informaton about being more prepared for emergencies. As well as signing up to Birmingham Community Alert.
