Birmingham Community Alert was commended for the IT Project Innovation Award and was up against other IT projects which showcase improvement of communication channels between government and the citizen.  The Good Communication Awards 2010 were held on 15th July at the Emirates Stadium in London, and officers from Birmingham City Council were there to hear the winner be announced.

Glen Curry, Birmingham City Council Emergency Planning Officer developed the Birmingham Community Alert system.  “We are very proud to be commended for this award so soon after we launched the Birmingham Community Alert service.  This really shows the great benefit this system is bringing to the citizens of Birmingham allowing them free access to emergency alerts and messages during incidents.”

gca“We believe the system is leading the way in which the public get access to vital information during emergencies, and we have worked very hard with our supplier HTK to make sure we developed an effective system that meets the needs of our communities.”
