First iPhone app to warn of flooding

The country’s first ever mobile phone application that provides the public with flood warnings has been launched by the Environment Agency.

‘Flood Alert’ uses live Environment Agency data to provide users with real time updates on local flood warnings. Users can elect to receive flood warnings for up to two additional geographical locations – this can be useful for those who have vulnerable relatives living elsewhere in England or Wales.

The application also displays an overview for specific geographical regions, and provides useful web links to the Environment Agency pages on flooding and flood warnings.

The application is free and can be downloaded from the Apple ‘App Store’. Both an Android and Blackberry version will be launched in the next few months.
