Heat Health Watch System

The Heat Health Watch System has now come in to operation as of 1 June and will continue throughout the summer until 15 September.  There are four Levels of the Heat Health Watch System outlined in the Department of Health’s Heatwave Plan 2013.  These are based on Met Office forecasts which will trigger levels of response from the Department of Health and other bodies such as social care providers.  When forecast weather conditions are predicted to exceed thresholds of 30C during the day and 15C during the night on at least two consecutive days.  We are currently at Level 1 which means there is currently no Heat Wave expected.  However, organisations are asked to consider their summer preparedness and raise awareness of actions to take if the weather forecast changed and if heat wave conditions were to be predicted.
