The Met Office have issued a Level 3 Cold Weather Alert which indicates that there is a 90% probability of severe cold weather / icy conditions / heavy snow between 1200 on Wednesday (28 January 2015) until 1200 on Thursday (29 January 2015) that is likely to affect parts of England, including the West Midlands (80%). Low temperatures expected from Wednesday onwards. The cold will be accentuated by very strongwinds. Snow showers are expected and may be frequent at times with accumulations.

This weather could increase the health risks to vulnerable patients and disrupt the delivery of services.

An update will be issued when the alert level changes in any region. Alerts are issued once a day by 0900 if required and are not subject to amendment in between standard issue times. Note that the details of the forecast weather are valid at the time of issue but may change over the period that an alert remains in force. These details will not be updated here unless the alert level also changes, the latest forecast details can be obtained at the following link: http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/weather/forecast/#?tab=map and http://www.birminghamprepared.gov.uk/advice/specific-risks/snow-and-low-temperatures/ for helpful advice during snow and low temperatures.

The alerts take account of temperature along with other winter weather threats such as ice and snow. Please take care and look out for others that may need your help.
