Police Incident in City Centre

West Midlands Police issued the following press release at 20:00hrs, 10th October 2013:

UPDATE: City Centre – normal policing patrols resumed

Update from West Midlands Police: 8 pm, Thursday 10 October 2013.

Earlier today, there was an increased West Midlands Police presence in the city centre following information received from a member of the public which gave us some concern for public safety. Measures were put in place whilst this was assessed and investigated.

Chief Supt Clive Burgess is the commander for Birmingham: “Public safety is our first priority and we responded proportionately having received this intelligence.

“The increased presence was undertaken as a precaution and was led by local officers, supported by armed officers and the helicopter.

“Routine evening and night-time patrols have now resumed.

“A robust and determined investigation continues.

“We continue to work closely with BullRing management, local partners and Birmingham City Council.”

City Centre Police Response a “Precaution” to Ensure Public Safety

West Midlands Police increased patrols in Birmingham city centre this afternoon following information received from a member of the public.

Public safety is our first priority and we responded following specific intelligence; enquiries are ongoing.

The increased presence has been undertaken as a precaution, and continues. Local officers on the ground are being supported by armed officers and colleagues from the National Police Air Service.

We are working closely with Bullring management, local partners and Birmingham City Council. Bullring and the city centre are open for business as usual.
