Snow and Ice – Update

Very cold weather continues. Gritters out. Allow longer for journeys and check traffic / travel updates on local radio and relevant websites.

Light snow has continued to fall overnight , ploughing and gritting operations have continued and will carry on throughout the day as necessary. Forecasts indicate snow will become more patchy but very cold conditions will continue with wind increasing that chill factor. Met Office warnings for snow and ice are in place until tomorrow morning.

Ploughing and Gritting has taken place throughout the day and traffic has been flowing along most main routes.  Most public transport diversions were lifted earlier in the day and bus services hope to continue via normal routes as far as possible this evening weather permitting,  updates available at  http://nxbus.co.uk/ 

It is predicted that the snow should gradually become lighter by tomorrow morning but conditions will be cold and icy so pedestrians and motorists should take extra care.

Ploughing and gritting will continue overnight and tomorrow.

Update at 1200hrs Sat 23rd March 2013

The Met Office advise that whilst further snow is expected the situation is now improving with a trend towards drier conditions over the next 24hrs. There could still be another 2-5cm of snow on higher ground and continued drifting on higher ground due to strong winds.  Through the night, the snow will gradually become lighter and is predicted to die out during Sunday morning.  The emphasis for Sunday and in to next week is mostly dry but very cold conditions.

Gritting has continued overnight generally roads are heavy and slushy, some buses are affected particularly in the Northfield and Kingstanding areas. http://nxbus.co.uk/
