Working together for a resilient Birmingham.

Birmingham tackles climate change

Jan Quigley, Emergency Planning Officer blogs about an exciting event held last week to help combat climate change in Birmingham.

On the 12th October the Birmingham Resilience Team and Climate Change Adaptation Group invited community group representatives to attend an exhilarating workshop with a difference!

The purpose of the workshop was to focus on the City’s core priorities in responding to the threat of increasing and severe extreme weather events such as heat wave and flooding that are likely to become more frequent as a result of climate change.

In addition to this there was an opportunity for communities to identify and prioritise some community-led projects which will be funded by the Climate Change Adaptation Partnership Team.

It is only by liaising with our communities we are able to better understand the concerns that residents of Birmingham have and how we can all work together to build resilience and the support that is required for this to happen. Ultimately we do need to work together if we are to ensure that Birmingham becomes more resilient to cope with these events now and in the years to come.
